Let’s get moving! How to use movement to boost confidence and heal acne!

You may be gearing up for your next holiday party, browsing the ‘gram trying to extract as many trade secrets as possible to look and feel your best. If your Instagram is anything like ours, it is full of ladies who are getting their fit on and looking amazing doing it. You may be thinking “I too, would like to look fit!” - we gotchu fam. Today we’ll be posting our fav tips on how to squeeze in exercise during the holidays, and our tips to avoid breaking out when you break a sweat. The benefits of exercise are fairly endless, but the big motivators when you have acne are the known links to stress reduction and boosting of blood circulation which allows your skin to replenish itself and carry away cell waste.

Any program that claims to give you instant results is either a scam, or unhealthy and probably also an expensive scam. The most important thing is your health and we write this blog hoping to help you find balance in every aspect of your life - including your skin.


Alright - now without further ado here are our surefire tips and tricks for getting holiday party ready in a flash.


Break it up!

So, you still want to get in 60 minutes of activity but 60 minutes of consistent active time feels completely unrealistic? Totally get it. Studies have shown that your workout is just as effective if it is broken up into sessions so feel free to get sweaty in 20 or 30 minute bursts. When I am in a time crunch I personally prefer to do cardio in the morning when I am so tired that I forget I even did it and then will leave weight training for the evening.

 

Hot Tip:

When the aim of the game is short bursts of intensity, most of these workouts can be done at home (fo free!). Saving you time and $$. Check out Tone It Up, Blogilates, Fitness Blender ect for some free and paid programs you can rock at home.


HIIT IT

If spending an hour a day working out isn’t your thing, or is just too time consuming you may enjoy a HIIT more. The idea behind this is to go all out (Generally speaking 70-85% of your all out-max) for a short burst like 30-50 seconds and then taking a break for half the time that you worked for. For example, if you for all out for 30 seconds - you rest for 15 seconds before starting up again. The benefit here is it is short, intense and most workouts are around 10-30 minutes which can be ideal for even the busiest of us.


Hot Tip:


Try to avoid wearing makeup when you exercise, and if it is in the middle of your day and makeup is an unavoidable reality, throw a few micellar cleansing wipes into your gym bag to remove dirt and oil following your workout. Try to find time to rinse off following your sweat sesh and always change into clean clothing.

Active hangouts

Do you feel more motivated in groups? We get it. Getting a friend involved can be more fun too. If you are looking to break a sweat but would rather abandon traditional exercise, turn your time with a friend into an active hangout. Make some tea and suggest a walk to take a gander at all of your neighbor’s Christmas lights, suggest ice skating, snowshoeing, or make a day of it at the mountains snowboarding or skiing.


Gameify it

For all of you that don’t actually want to commit -real- time to dreaded exercise, that’s cool. Multi-tasking is where it is at. We have a solution to that too. Have a favorite tv show or movie? You can make a workout out of virtually every movie or tv show. We gave a few examples below but essentially before the movie or show starts write out an activity (squats, lunges, mountain climbers, burpees, Glute Bridges, Push-ups, ect) that you will do for X (I recommend 10-15 reps) every time something easy to predict happens on the show.

Hot tip: If this is the only activity you do, make sure you make it count. A lot of activities you will find online are a very small amount of reps and won’t be equal to a full-fledged workout. Most are just a way to break up periods of continuous sitting or to get your heart rate going. These are great. But don’t mistake this as a full-time replacement for an exercise regimen. Let this be a fun way to flirt with fitness, or to try to add in -something- during that busy holiday season during gym closures and craziness.
